Downtown Cleveland has a new landmark, and it is impossible to miss.
An 11,000-square-foot mural by internationally recognized Brazilian artist Eduardo Kobra now fills the walls of the 55 Public Square Garage at West 3rd Street and St. Clair Avenue. The finished work brings four foundational voices of rock and roll to the center of the city: Chuck Berry, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley and Wanda Jackson.
With Kobra’s unmistakable bursts of geometric color cutting across richly detailed portraits, the mural feels both classic and alive. It turns a once-blank garage wall into a bold public stage—one that welcomes workers, residents and visitors into downtown with a reminder of the artists whose sounds reshaped music forever.
A new Cleveland landmark
From the first blank-wall photos to the final ribbon cutting, the transformation at West 3rd and St. Clair has been remarkable. The four figures rise across two connected walls, creating a corner-sized tribute to the energy, originality and lasting influence of rock and roll.
Chuck Berry’s guitar, Aretha Franklin’s voice, Elvis Presley’s presence and Wanda Jackson’s trailblazing spirit come together in one vivid, larger-than-life composition. It is a fitting addition to a city whose identity is deeply tied to the music—and to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just down the street.
Art made possible through collaboration
The project was brought to Cleveland by Graffiti HeArt, the local nonprofit known for using public art to strengthen neighborhoods, celebrate culture and create meaningful opportunities for artists and young people. With support from Downtown Cleveland, Inc., K&D Management, BrandSafway, Sherwin-Williams, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and many other partners and donors, this ambitious vision became a permanent part of the cityscape.
Kobra’s work is recognized around the world for its monumental scale and bright, faceted portraits. Here in Cleveland, that visual language gives the city a mural that is both a photo destination and a lasting celebration of music history.
