On Friday, August 14, Clevelanders walked into more than a traditional job fair. They found recruiters, career guidance, legal help, family services, professional preparation and hands-on demonstrations—all under one roof. Conversations that began at a booth could become an interview, a new skill, a cleared barrier or the first step toward a better season of life.

The official City of Cleveland event listing advertised more than 200 employers and resource organizations across more than 20 industries. The City did not release separate final totals for employers and resource providers, so Cleveland Boricua is reporting the verified combined figure. From entry-level opportunities to senior-level positions, the range made one message clear: Cleveland has pathways for people at many different stages.
Opportunity designed around real life
The fair paired hiring with the support people often need before they can accept or keep a job. Advertised services included résumé assistance, free professional headshots and clothing, food-safety certification, veteran resources, child-support help, benefits assistance, legal services, record sealing and expungement, warrant removal, license reinstatement and construction demonstrations.
Free onsite childcare, school supplies, haircuts, parking and shuttle transportation helped remove everyday barriers. That matters because opportunity is not only about posting a job. It is also about making the path to that job possible.
Who created this opportunity?
The fourth annual event was presented by the City of Cleveland. The official listing names City Recruitment Manager Darrick McDaniel as the event contact. McDaniel’s LinkedIn promotion described 307 employers and community resources under one roof, while the City’s public event page used the broader verified description of more than 200 employers and resources.
This is the Cleveland worth celebrating: a city willing to bring institutions together, open doors and give people a place to begin again. One event cannot solve every workforce challenge, but it can replace isolation with connection—and connection is where progress starts.
